I like my stitch markers simple. I started off with pieces of string tied into a loop. They worked fine until I was knitting a lace stole in a car on our holiday and noticed that the damn loops kept falling off and were pretty hard to locate on the car floor on a highway whilst giving directions to the driver and trying to keep the stitches from falling off the needles. We stopped at a hardware store and I got these (click on the pics for a better view):

Pidän yksinkertaisista silmukkamerkeistä. Käytin aluksi vain lenkiksi solmittuja langanpätkiä. Ne toimivat mainiosti, kunnes automatkalla pitsihuivia neuloessani huomasin, että niitä on pirun vaikea poimia auton lattialta moottiritiellä, kun samalla pitäisi lukea opasteita kuljettajalle ja varoa, etteivät silmukatkin putoa. Regular jump rings. Perfect, except for the little gap. I thought it wouldn’t matter but it did - the lace yarn was so thin that it occasionally slipped through the gap and the marker changed place. Solution:

Ohuita metallirenkaita, joissa on pieni aukko. En tiedä, mitä nämä ovat suomeksi - jump rings englanniksi. Ne olisivat täydellisiä, ellei niissä olisi sitä aukkoa. Pitsilanka on niin ohutta, että se tulee siitä läpi. Ratkaisu:

Take some seed beads and glue them onto the gap! What a fabulous idea! Not mine, though - I saw it in Ravelry.

Otetaan pieniä helmiä ja liimataan niillä aukko piiloon! Loistava idis, joskaan ei omani - näin sen Ravelryssä.

…and this is how they look on a glove needle. Too bad these are too small for my current project. Does anyone know where I could get some jump rings in Finland? I asked for them in a couple of hardware stores and they had a hard time understanding what I meant. They kept asking me what I needed them for, but I don’t think “knitting cables” would have helped…

…ja tältä ne näyttävät sormikaspuikolla. Harmi kyllä nämä ovat liian pienet nykyiseen projektiini. Tietääkö kukaan, mistä jump ringejä saisi Suomesta ja mitä ne ylipäänsä ovat suomeksi? Kysyin niitä parista rautakaupasta, ja myyjät eivät oikein tajunneet, mitä tarkoitin. He kyselivät, mihin tarvitsen niitä, mutta “palmikkojen neulominen” tuskin oli se vastaus, jota he hakivat…
